Pub Quiz - Music Round
Further to my first two brilliant threads about the amazing charity work i'm doing (not that i want to talk about it), you have been very helpful in offering suggestions for questions to be used in the first two rounds of the pub quiz i have been asked to organise.

I will use some and even those that I don't, I still appreciate the effort and you can still take away pride from the fact you are curing Cancer by helping raise money for the chairty i am parton of... I mean they don't use the word patron, but i know that is what they meant when they asked me to help.

I am now after suggestions for Music questions. I won't be playing any music, do just music related trivia. Please be aware that the age of the participants will vary from 9 - 90 so music for the young and old need to be covered.

Furnish me with your best.

Shalom

Who recorded the original version of "The tide is high".

Most of them will plump for Blondie but it is, of course, The Paragons.

Lyric rounds are a great music pub quiz favourite as most people have them on the tip of their tongue and then have to mentally sing them. I think I have an available lyric sheet from the Blagg Quiz I used to do here in Colchester if you want .

Re: Pub Quiz - Music Round
Mr Polite, I note you are not playing music, fine. Have you considered a "work out the song from the lyric" round. Just speak the lyrics (or hand them out on a sheet), without any inflection or hint of a tune. The quizzers then have to work out the song. You could do a round of say 10 songs, which could be themed, linked in some way. I've knocked up a quiz like this with a dozen such themed rounds. The songs are spread over a wide number of years, so not to favour any age group.

Not wishing to clutter up this post with 120 questions, here are a couple of rounds, you could use. If you want more, please whomail me.

Theme "love" in the song title.

1.Why do you hurt me so bad? It would help me to know. Do I stand in your way, or am I the best thing you've had?

Love is a battlefield

2.Searching everywhere from steeplechase to palisades
In any shooting gallery where promises are made.

Tunnel of Love

3.Who needs a heart, when a heart can be broken?

What's Love Got to do with it?

4.Say you don't need no diamond ring and I'll be satisfied.

Can't Buy Me Love

5.I'm going over to the other side, I'm happy to have and not to have not
Big business is very wise, I'm inside free enterprise.

This Is Not a Love Song.

6. Baby, baby, I get down on my knees for you. If you would only love me like you used to do.

You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

7.So if I call you, don't make a fuss
Don't tell your friends about the two of us

I'm Not In Love.

8. Once I ran to you ( I ran), now I'll run from you.

Tainted Love

9. Don't need money, don't take fame, don't need no credit card to ride this train.

Power of Love

10. I catch a paper boy, but things don't really change. I'm standing in the wind but never wave bye - bye.

Modern Love

Towns Cities and Places.

1. Just listen to the rhythm of gentle bossanova you'll be dancing with 'em too, before the night is over.

Downtown.

2 A fortune won and lost on every deal
All you needs a strong heart and a nerve of steel

Viva Las Vegas

3. I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps.

New York, New York.

4 He's got this dream about buyin' some land. He's gonna give up the booze and the one night stands

Baker Street.

5. There's a church bell ringing, hear the song of joy that it's singing.

Is This The way to Amarillo?

6. All across the nation such a strange vibration .

If You're Going to San Francisco.

7.Fame and fortune is a magnet, it can pull you far away from home. With a dream in your heart you're never alone

Do You Know the Way to San Jose?

8.Time flies - doesn't seem a minute since the Tyrolean spa had the chess boys in it. All change - don't you know that when you play at this level there's no ordinary venue.

One Night In Bangkok.

9. Take a look where you're livin, you got the army on the street. And the RUC dog of repression, is barking at your feet.

You could do a match the real name to the artist quiz. To make it a bit easier, you coukld include all the names and make them match the names up. Here are a few:

Cat Stevens (Stephen Demetre Georgiou, later Yusuf Islam)
Dean Martin (Dino Crocetti)
Dusty Springfield (Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien)
Elvis Costello (Declan Patrick Aloysius McManus)
Engelbert Humperdinck (Arnold Dorsey)
Fatboy Slim (Quentin Cook, later Norman Cook)
Freddie Mercury (Faroukh Bulsara)
Ice T (Tracy Morrow)
Iggy Pop (James Newell Osterberg Jr.)
Lady Gaga (Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta)
Marilyn Manson (Brian Warner))
Slash (Saul Hudson)
Snoop Dogg (Calvin Broadus)
Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle)
